Community

The Community view brings the animations other Animation Workbench users have shared into the Workbench, and sends yours the other way. The same catalog is online at playmations.com.

Nothing is fetched until you turn it on. The first time you open the view it says what happens and waits for Connect; the ⋯ menu in its toolbar has Turn the community off to undo that.

Browsing

Animations is the whole public catalog. Newest, Most used and Most liked sort it, and the search on the right looks through titles, descriptions and tags.

The row of tags above the cards narrows the wall to one tag, the most used first with how many clips carry it. Click the tag again, or All, to lift it. A tag also works together with a search.

Every card plays its clip on your project's default character. Until its frames are ready it shows the motion as a stick figure, which is the same motion, only thinner.

Taking a clip

Click a card to select it, Ctrl and Shift to add more, or drag a frame over empty space. Double-click or Enter imports what is selected into Assets/_AWCreations/Community. Do it again and the Workbench switches to Clips with those clips selected.

Importing needs an account. The mouse's back and forward buttons step through earlier selections, searches and collections.

Right-click a card for everything else: import or show in Clips, like, save to a collection, copy the link, open it on the portal, its tags, the creator's other clips, following the creator, and reporting it. The heart and the star on a card like it or save it in one click.

Collections

A collection is a set of clips you keep together, to find them again or to show someone. The star on a card, or Save to collection in its menu, puts it into one of yours; with several cards selected it saves all of them.

The Collections tab shows Yours and those of the people you follow. Open one to see its clips, and Import all brings in whatever is not in your project yet.

Sharing

Right-click a clip in the Clips view and choose Share with the Community…, or use Share… in the single clip view. The form checks where the clip comes from first: clips from Asset Store packages, Mixamo or other Community members cannot be shared, and a clip of unknown origin carries a reminder to share it only if you made it.

Two ways to share:

  • Public lists it in the Community under CC0: anyone may use and change it, also commercially, without crediting you.
  • Private keeps it to you, on the portal and in the Workbench. Nobody else can open it, not even with the link.

The Community takes humanoid clips for now. Tags are chips: Enter, comma or space adds one, typing lists the tags already in use, and the form suggests some from the clip's title and from whether it loops or stays in place.

If the same motion is already in the Community, the form names the clip that has it and takes you there: Show in My clips when it is yours, Open on the portal when it is someone else's. Someone else's private clip, or one that was withdrawn, does not stand in the way.

My clips

My clips lists every clip you shared, each marked Public or Private. Right-click one and choose Edit… to change its title, description, tags and visibility, or to withdraw it.

Your account

Sign in at the top right signs you in through your browser, with Discord, GitHub or Google. On the portal's account page you can connect more than one of them to the same account. Your account on the portal in the account menu opens that page already signed in.

Clips as files

Assets ▸ Animation Workbench ▸ Export Clips as .awclip… in the Project window writes every selected clip, or every clip in a selected model file, to a folder as .awclip files, the format the Community uses. On the portal, a clip also downloads as .fbx or .glb: the bare skeleton with its motion, for Blender, Maya or another Unity project.
